Larry L. Learn has more than 30 years of experience in the fields of education, computer and information systems, telecommunications, and computer and telecommunications power systems. He has published over 100 articles and has contributed to numerous books in the fields of Computer and Information Science; Telecommunications and Networking; and, Nuclear Physics and Accelerator Design. He is the author of the book Telecommunications for Information Specialists. Mr. Learn has spent a significant part of his career as a member of the senior management team (reporting variously to the President/CEO and COO) of a major international computer service and information company that operates in 70 countries and has nearly 40,000 domestic and international corporate customers with more than 70,000 terminals and corporate workstations served by the company's international telecommunications infrastructure. He was responsible for the original design and implementation of that infrastructure, as well as the planning/design of several subsequent technical generations of that network, and the eventual migration of much of the customer traffic to both the Internet and to a private corporate Intranet. Mr. Learn is the founder of The Association of Telecommunications Professionals, Inc. (ATP) and currently serves as Director Emeritus. He has also served (by gubernatorial appointment) on the Ohio (HB 563) Telecommunications Advisory Council, the Blue Ribbon Panel on Ohio's Telecommunications Future as well as the Network Technical Architecture Group and Linked Systems Project Technical Committee on the national level. He has received numerous state and national awards, including the national Library and Information Technology Association (1997) technical person of the year award. Mr. Learn holds a B.A. (1965) in Physics and Mathematics and an M.A. (1967) in Nuclear Physics from Western Michigan University; has worked for the Atomic Energy Commission at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago, where he was involved in early computer networking experiments; and is a graduate of the prestigious (participation by invitation only) Central States Universities-Argonne National Laboratory Honors Program in Physics, conducted by the University of Chicago and the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. Larry held the position of Assistant Operations Engineer in the Cyclotron Department of Michigan State University, where he completed the course requirements for a Ph.D. in Nuclear Instrumentation; and the positions of Computer Facilities Division Director and Director of Telecommunications Planning in the Executive Office of OCLC, Inc. He is a graduate of the Executive Education Program of the Harvard Graduate School of Business, and has taught in the Physics Departments at both Western Michigan University and Michigan State University. Mr. Learn holds a valid FCC Commercial General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) [PG-GB-015752 w/ ship radar endorsement] as well as a valid FCC Commercial Second Class Radiotelegraph Operator's Certificate (T2) [T2-GB-020775 w/ ship radar endorsement].
